Would You Sell Your C8 Corvette for a $20K Profit?
C8 Corvette owner declined $20k over what he owed, but others would jump on that deal.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette introduced the world to the mid-engine C8 platform, making it an instant collectable. That led to many dealerships charging substantial markups and many consumers were happy to pay that markup for the right to own one of the first production mid-engine Corvettes. Along the same lines, the first C8 Corvettes quickly demanded a premium price on the barely-used market. As one member pointed out, some people are still looking to a pretty considerable amount of money for a 2020 Stingray.
A thread by “MagicGlass” explains that he was offered $20,000 over what he owed for his Zeus Bronze C8 Covette Stingray. He declined the offer, but in his thread, many C8 owners would jump on that offer while others wouldn’t sell their mid-engine Corvette for any amount of money.
Corvette Proposition
When the OP first posted his thread in the C8 General Discussion section, he shared a picture of his Zeus Bronze Corvette Stingray (above) with the title “Got an offer from a Guy for $20K over What I paid for Zeus!” Inside the thread, he explains that he declined the offer.
Oh no ahh ahhh not a chance. I’m not waiting 2 years for another one.
Later on in the thread, he stated an understandable reason for not selling.
I really like the car too much to sell it as crazy as that sounds.
Its very rare only 1 of 124 were built with natural dipped interior.
The most popular reply so far comes from “BobG”, who would have sold the car if he was in the same situation.
Different strokes…I learned a long time ago, if someone seriously offers a ridiculous amount of money for a car….take it! There is always another one right around the corner. As much as I want my C8, if I find myself in that situation, the car will have a new owner.
Many people agreed with BobG, but there are some C8 Corvette Stingray owners who wouldn’t sell for any amount of money.
So far, there are three pages of discussion focusing on whether or not the members involved would sell a C8 Corvette Stingray for $20,000 more than they owe. The vast majority of those who have commented would sell their car in the same situation.
“Dvilin”:
20k profit away it goes.
“Display333”:
take the dough!!!!! for heavens sake.. theyre still making these things!!!!
“Solman27”:
Nope. That car would be sold. 20k over? I’d get back on that list. Plow the profit right back into a new one. Just a car. Unless I was 70+. Then I wouldn’t be selling. But everyone has their own choices to make. At least you have that choice! Congrats on the offer. I know your enjoying that great car! Saw that color in person and it’s a great color IMO. Can’t wait for mine to come in. Hopefully soon…..
“The Successful Plumber”:
If someone offered me $20K over and above everything I had into a $70k car. I’d drive them to the bank before they wised up and change their mind.
“C82021”:
With you. Bob! I was thinking…I’m taking delivery same allocation as you. So I take June delivery…get to enjoy it all summer…then October 1 some one offers me $15K more than I paid for it. So..instead of paying to store it for the winter…sell it and immediately I put in order for a 2022 (exact same time I put in order for 2021).
Rinse, wash, and repeat: take delivery next spring (when I’d be taking it out of storage. No storage costs–instead be PAID $10K net after taxes/fees) and enjoy a brand new model year–a year later.
NOT the plan… WON’T happen…BUT will be the new plan if some one makes that offer in 6 months lol.
Keep the Car
There were some members who value their C8 Corvette too much to sell it.
“Johnodrake”:
At my age, I wouldn’t want to wait for the next iteration. I’ll keep Skye.
“MikeC4C5C6…C7”:
We waited 50 years for a mid engine Corvette!
Don’t sell!!!
“Datawiz”:
I’ve now been waiting 15 months for mine. I’m close to getting mine, and I have no intention of flipping it. I want to DRIVE it. Think about it this way…3 years down the road, the value of the car will still be quite high. Enjoy it now. $20k would not make me sell.
“Srewood”:
I just got mine on Friday after waiting 18 months. I believe my out the door was 95.6k.
I wouldn’t sell it for 150k. At least, I’d have to actually think about it. You’d have to offer 175k for me to feel like I had to sell it.
18 $&#! Months! Not again!
