December is here, and so is the end of this miserable year, 2020. Watching our favorite Corvette events and happenings get shoved around or cancelled outright certainly made things difficult, to say the least. Yet, the C8 Era ran right through the chaos, shining a light in the growing darkness.

The C8 Corvette is such a star, it dominated the headlines here at Corvette Forum in 2020. In fact, our top 10 stories this are all about the C8 Corvette. All the ups, all the downs. Let’s get started.

No. 10: “Can the C8 Slay the Dodge Demon in a Drag Race?”

There’s no rest for the wicked, and nothing was more so than this battle between the C8 and the one-year-only Dodge Demon. It was a hard battle against the hyper-focused Challenger. Despite falling to the beast, though, the C8 can hold its own.

Some Corvette fans weren’t quite on-board with the new mid-engine ‘Vette, though, going as far as to call it a Ferrari knock-off. Well, one Corvette Forum member happened upon a C8 whose owner had to pull one on the haters by slapping on a few Ferrari stickers.

Though we wish it would never happen, let alone so soon, the C8 Corvette has already lost a few members due to crashes. This one happened at the infamous Tail of the Dragon when an errant Mazda Miata hip-checked the silver ‘Vette.

This one scared a lot of Corvette fans, including a few of us here. However, the Corvette team is still working on all of its C8-based projects. Plus, the electrification of the GM portfolio with the help of the team could mean, some time near the end of the C8 era if not the C9 era, there could be a pure Corvette EV, too.

As if losing C8s to wrecks wasn’t frightening enough, some may’ve been caused by the hood flying open. The issue, per GM, was that the owners weren’t doing their due diligence in ensuring the hood was closed, ignoring warnings and such. The owners, meanwhile, said this happened without warning at all. Either way, GM did a software update to prevent this issue from occurring again.

Were you hoping for some forced induction with the C8 Z06? Turns out the new Z06 will breath naturally, instead. That said, the LT6 V8 meant for the car will have plenty of power on tap, to the tune of 625 horses; a detuned version already powered the C8.R to its first IMSA championship this year.

We’ve had wrecks with cars and spontaneously flying hoods on the C8 so far. Here’s one where the dealer broke the car, though. What started as a journey to buy a used Z06 led to a new C8. The car had a squeak, which turned to a fall off the lift. One viral video later, the C8 owner is first in line at his local Chevy dealer for a C8 Z06, and currently drives a “temporary” 2011 Z06 for the trouble.
