Corvette C8.R Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

Though 2020 became the speedbump no one wanted to hit, the Corvette handily cruised past it to bring a few life-affirming moments to us all.

This year’s not been the greatest, to say the least. Luckily, it should end some time in 2021; then, the New ’20s can truly begin. However, there’s been at least one thing to light the way through the darkness: the dawn of the C8-era Corvette. Six decades after the Father of the Corvette himself, Zora Arkus-Duntov, began the pursuit of a production mid-engine car, the first ones finally rolled out of the factory this year.

And though 2020 has otherwise been the speedbump no one wanted to hit, the Corvette’s carried us over it like nothing at all. Thus, here the top 10 moments which made this year better than it actually was.

Before production began in February, there was the issue of who would get the opportunity to own No. 1. Thus, Lot #3007 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale in mid-January had everyone’s attention. Though a red pre-production model would grace the block, the winning bid would receive a black-on-black 3LT with every option available, including the Z51 package. NASCAR legend Rick Hendrick, himself a big Corvette collector, threw down the winning bid of $3 million to bring No. 1 home to Charlotte, where it will never be driven, but preserved.
