This 1971 Corvette With Just 1,339 Original Miles Is a True Benchmark
An amazing time capsule in absolutely perfect condition, it’s no surprise this 1971 Corvette attracted lots of attention.
The definition of “low miles” is a relatively loose one in the automotive world. Much of which is defined by how old a car is, or perhaps how many cars just like it have similar mileage, or if it’s somewhat of an outlier in that regard. And while there are quite a few low-mile Corvettes out there in the world, few have traveled much less than this gorgeous 1971 Corvette that recently popped up on eBay.
This 1971 Corvette has just 1,339 original miles showing on the odometer, and there’s no funny business here. In fact, this very car was bestowed with the Benchmark award at Bloomington in 1996, the ultimate standard for unrestored vehicles that is notoriously difficult to obtain. As such, this C3 is a true time capsule that will transport you back to the early ’70s when you climb inside the cabin.
The classic Corvette is finished in Steel Cities Gray with a black leather interior and is equipped with a number of options including power and tilt/telescoping steering, power windows, an AM/FM radio, GM’s iconic 350 small block V8 producing 330 horsepower, a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission, and white letter tires.
Over the last 25 years, the 1971 Corvette has added just 30 miles to its odometer and its appearance at Bloomington is the only time it’s been shown as well. Since we’re smack in the middle of the car’s 50th anniversary, now seems like a great time for it to emerge, as it’s the silver anniversary of the “silver” car, no?
As one can see from the pictures, this C3 remains in immaculate condition, save for some normal time-related wear, inside and out. It’s truly like looking at circa 1971 photos of a new Corvette, which is a testament to the car’s owner(s) and how well it’s been taken care of over the years. The car was even sold with its original title, bill of sale, and tank sticker, to boot.
Unsurprisingly, bidding was robust on this time capsule of a Corvette, and it wound up selling for a healthy $65,000. We have no doubt that the new owner has scored an appreciating asset as well, because Corvettes of this vintage with this sort of mileage don’t exactly pop up every day.
