Street Racer Tries (and Fails) to Outrun Police in C4 Corvette
Corvette and F-body Camaro find trouble instead of a race; and it doesn’t end well for anyone. Especially the C4 ‘Vette.
There’s a few things one should never do when racing. First, don’t race illegally on a road where others could be put in danger. Obvious enough. Also, do not race anything if you don’t have the means to do repairs. While this might seem obvious, it bears repeating: If the police do catch you, pull over. And lastly, don’t try to outrun law enforcement. Especially if you’re driving a C4 Corvette.
We mean no disrespect; we love the C4. Corvettes of that generation have rightfully earned their place Chevy’s iconic sports car legacy. However, that doesn’t mean we’re blind to its weaknesses, either. Is a 1984-1996 Corvette likely to outrun a Ford Police Interceptor or Dodge Charger on its tail? No.
But one Corvette driver in North Carolina decided to disregard all this and double down on foolishness. And as expected, it just didn’t go like it does in the movies. Thankfully, no one was injured.
According to WRAL news, the incident occurred last week. One driver was behind the wheel of an F-body Camaro. He crossed paths with a man driving his new C4 Corvette. The two drivers (who remain unidentified by law enforcement) then decided to line up and throw down in an illegal street race.
The two were battling it out when they were clocked flying by a Johnson County State Trooper doing about 130 mph. But when the officer tried to pull the fellas over, that’s when the real action kicked off.
Shortly after giving chase, the Camaro just conked out. The Corvette kept going, with police in hot pursuit. Unfortunately, he blew an intersection, lost control, and crashed into a guardrail.
Both drivers were arrested and had their cars impounded as part of North Carolina’s “Run and You’re Done” law.
After his arrest, the Corvette driver told police that he and the Camaro driver were just having some racing fun. Adding insult to injury, he had just purchased the Corvette earlier in the week.
While the damage isn’t catastrophic–it’s going to be a costly mistake. Especially once he adds in legal feels, impound costs, insurance skyrocketing.
It’s hard to resist a challenge on the road when you’re driving a cool car. But next time, let ’em rev away.
