Muscle Car City Collection With 48 Corvettes Is Headed to Auction

The Muscle Car City collection is one of the largest on earth, and now it’s going up for grabs via Mecum Auctions.

Mecum Auctions never fails to host an event that doesn’t have a bunch of cool Corvettes up for grabs. But the upcoming Muscle Car City Collection sale, scheduled for January 22-23 in Punta Gorda, Florida, is going to be something extra special for fans of Chevy’s iconic muscle car. Altogether, the collection is one of the largest of its kind in the world, pieced together over the years by Rick Treworgy. But now, most of that collection will be seeking new owners, and all of it is being offered with no reserve price.

The four-dozen Corvette piece of the Muscle Car City collection spans the 1954-2020 model years and a wide birth of models and special editions. They’re a large slice of the 200 or so cars that comprise this sale, which consists entirely of General Motors products produced over the last 80 years, along with various pieces of road art and memorabilia.

Treworgy dedicated decades of his life to collecting and curating these fine vehicles, then spent the last 14 years sharing them with the public. Now, however, he’s decided to retire and part ways with the vast majority of his collection, which is a veritable treasure trove for collectors. Only registered bidders will be able to participate, however, so you’ll want to take care of that prior to the auction’s start.

Those that do will have their pick of some truly amazing rides, including everything from a brand new 2020 C8 Corvette 3LT to Z06s and ZR1s from all the later generations to big-block C2s and C3s to restomods to a wide variety of C1s. All of them are truly pristine, either low-mile cars or fully restored examples, with a healthy sprinkling of modernized cruisers thrown in for good measure.

We imagine that more than one Corvette (or GM) fan will be interested in this mega sale, because we most certainly are. And while it’s always sad to see a lifelong collector part with their beloved vehicles, it’s also a prime opportunity for others to pick up the ride of their dreams. And is that really ever a bad thing?
