This amazing split-window Corvette restomod is a textbook example of how to improve upon the iconic model.

Many will argue that the one-year-only 1963 Corvette split-window coupe is the peak of automotive design, and they may very well be right. A lot of those folks will also say that these cars should be left as-is, as they’re already a celebrated and coveted piece of history. But that doesn’t make this insanely gorgeous split-window Corvette restomod, built by Jeff Hayes Customs, any less amazing. In fact, we imagine that it will net far more when the hammer falls on it at Barrett-Jackson’s Houston auction than the average, stock ’63 coupe.

As is the case with most similar, successful builds, this split-window Corvette restomod doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel – only to enhance the car’s inherent goodness even further. That includes leaving the iconic body alone and simply giving it a stunning paint job, in this case, a bright red hue. The car rolls on a set of modern, custom Schott Mach 5 wheels wrapped in Toyo red line tires, however.

In terms of mechanicals, this C2 has been treated to some thoroughly modern components, however. That starts with a brand-new LS3 V8 under the hood that’s rated to produce 540 horsepower, which it sends to the rear wheels via a 4L70E four-speed automatic transmission. An Art Morrison chassis ensures that power can make it to the road effectively, and is fitted with front and rear sway bars, as well as Wilwood brakes with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston units in the rear.

The interior of this stunning machine retains much of its original character but has been wrapped with silky smooth distressed saddle leather, which is nicely complemented by a host of polished hardware. A custom carbon-fiber center console provides a nice modern touch while the driver enjoys an array of amenities including a Vintage Air HVAC system, power steering, power windows, power hood, and a Bluetooth stereo system.

Corvette restomods simply don’t get much better than this, especially when we narrow that category down to split windows. And while some may prefer that we leave these cars alone, we can’t help but drool over this amazingly tasteful build.
