Lowest-Mile 1996 427 Corvette in Existence Headed to Auction

This amazing 1966 427 Corvette has a massive trophy case and piles of documentation to back up its lofty claim.

Lots of cars (or rather their sellers) claim to be the best, cleanest, lowest-mile, most stellar examples in existence. But can they really prove it? In many cases, that task is simply impossible, but it seems like the seller of this 1966 427 Corvette feels quite confident that they indeed have the lowest-mile 1966 427 Corvette in existence, and now it’s going up for grabs at Mecum’s upcoming Indy auction on May 14-22.

Unlike the average local used car classified, however, this particular C2 can back up its owner’s claims with a whole lot of hardware. The unrestored beauty, which shows 11,400 miles on the odometer, is Bloomington Gold certified, Bloomington Gold Survivor certified, Bloomington Gold Benchmark certified, and has won a Bloomington Gold Zenith award, an NCRS 5-Star Bowtie award, Best in Preservation Class at the 2019 Greenbriar Concours d’Elegance, and is a 4-time NCRS Top Flight award winner.

If all of that isn’t prestigious enough, this very car was also used as the centerfold for the 2020 Greenbriar Concours d’Elegance official program, the 2019 NCRS National Convention for Advanced Judging (where it was also photographed extensively as an example for their 1966 judging manual), and has long served as a training tool for the top Corvette judges in the world.

The ’66 drop-top wonder is indeed a veritable time machine, still wearing its original Rally Red paint and red interior, with its original 427/390 horsepower V8 underhood. The V8 is connected to a four-speed manual transmission, which sends power back to a differential fitted with 3.36 gears. Other notable features include the transistor ignition and off-road exhaust, along with a Teakwood steering wheel, AM/FM radio, and tinted glass.

The Corvette is also being sold with a rather large collection of goodies, including the original window sticker, Protec-O-Plate, keys, showroom brochure, owner’s manual, color chart, radio operating instructions, FM reception radio dash card, ownership history, period photos, maintenance receipts, and even handwritten letters from the original owner.

Add it all up, and you’ve got one of the more significant Corvettes in existence, one that has been preserved incredibly well over the last few decades. Mecum hasn’t yet provided an auction estimate for this incredible piece of history, but we’ll certainly be tuning in to see the inevitably large amount of attention it attracts when the bidding starts.
