Car and Driver’s 2020 recap offers some exciting news for all the Corvette fans around the world!

Car and Driver released its annual list of best vehicles this week and you’ll never guess which car was among the best of 2020. The magazine’s senior editor and columnist, Ezra Dyer is quite fond of the C8 Corvette and endorsed the mid-engine sports car as one of the finest automotive examples of 2020. Dyer was impressed by the C8 Stingray’s versatility and said, “this one also offers a degree of refinement and versatility that surprises us. With a control-arm suspension front and rear, the C8 provides a compliant ride while retaining the ability to slay your favorite set of corners.”

The ongoing global pandemic has caused many production problems for Chevrolet Corvette, but the first-ever mid-engine avatar of the nameplate perseveres and continues to be one of the most coveted sports cars on sale right now.

Car & Driver also commended the C8 Stingray’s competitive price tag, and rightly so. The magazine also drew a three-way comparison between the C8 Corvette, Ferrari 488 Pista, and Porsche 911 Carrera S, “Its 2.8-second 60-mph time slots neatly between the Ferrari 488 Pista’s 2.7-second sprint and the Porsche 911 Carrera S’s 2.9-second run, yet its $59,995 base price aligns with those of half-ton pickups and tarted-up Jeep Wranglers.”

Speaking of performance, the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 motor produces 495 HP of power in its stock tune. However, the V8 engine has a lot of untapped potential.

Corvette tuners have already added turbos with eyes on producing ludicrous amounts of power (once the ECU is cracked), which is a testament to the engine’s build quality and reliability. Even the Italian atelier, Ares Design claims that it has managed to modify the C8’s 6.2-liter LT2 motor to produce 705  HP in its naturally-aspirated form.

The 2021 ‘Vette sure offers a lot of personality for a car with prices starting at just under the $60K. The sports car exudes a presence that can easily rival offering from the more premium segments. Even distinguished Design studios couldn’t help but succumb to the appeal of the Bowling Green sports car. However, Dyer’s not a big fan of the C8’s proportion which also happens to be the only aspect of the car he doesn’t enjoy.

“In some alternate universe, golf clubs and targa tops don’t exist and the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette is 174.4 inches long.” the columnist further adds, “But Corvette buyers love Pings and they love removable roof panels, so the C8 has a big ol’ trunk behind its mid-mounted V-8. It looks weird from certain angles.”

So if you agree with Dyer and want to see how fans celebrate yet another victory for the C8 Corvette Stingray or want to check out how enthusiasts are reacting to other models that made the list, then join the discussion here.
