Last 2020 Model Year Corvette Will Surprisingly Be Sold to a Customer

GM didn’t have time to do anything special with the last 2020 Corvette, so one lucky buyer may get it at retail.

Generally, the first and last of anything is a valuable commodity in the Corvette world. That includes any typical model year, but usually, the first and last example produced in first and last model year of any generation is quite coveted. Throw in the fact that the 2020 Corvette was produced in rather limited quantities, thanks to COVID-19, and you might think the last one off the assembly line would be sold at auction. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case at all.

According to Corvette Blogger, the last 2020 Corvette is a Sebring Orange convertible wearing VIN #19456. The car was ordered by Van Bortel Chevrolet in upstate New York and will be sold to a customer. That’s a pretty big surprise given the fact that these cars are typically either auctioned off for charity or kept on display by General Motors.

According to Corvette Blogger, GM decided to put the priority on wrapping up production and getting cars into the hands of customers. And given the delays they faced as a result of the pandemic, it makes sense, as the automaker didn’t really have time to do anything special to mark the end of the 2020 run, especially since the 2021 followed right behind it.

Whoever buys this particular Corvette is getting one heck of a deal, especially when you consider the fact that NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick paid a whopping $3 million for the first 2020 Corvette back at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. And prior to that, the last C7 Corvette produced hammered for $2.7 million at another Barrett-Jackson sale. Of course, the proceeds from both of those sales went to worthwhile charities, but that’s still a lot of coin for any Corvette.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the new owner does with their special purchase. Will they even know that it’s the last 2020 model ever made? If so, will they drive it, keep it stored away, or sell it for a healthy profit? The safe money is on the latter, of course, but no matter what, we’d bet this isn’t the last we’ll hear about VIN #19456.
