Hertz Corvette ZHZ the Rental Car We All Want to Keep
One of 500 built for Hertz in the 2008 model year, Corvette ZHZ left the counter for good in 2012, boasts a total of 1,200 miles on its LS3.
When it comes to performance rental cars, Hertz may be the only one to come to mind. After all, they once linked up with Carroll Shelby for a fleet of special Mustangs back in the Sixties. As far as Chevys go, though, Hertz brought their trademark yellow and black to some fine machines, like the Camaros built in 2019 by Hendrick Motorsports, and a fleet of Corvette Z06s specially made to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary.
It wasn’t the first time Hertz had a special Corvette to rent, though. In 2008, the Corvette ZHZ made a big splash at the rental counter. Obviously, they all were eventually sold to fans. Now, thanks to Bring a Trailer, one such Corvette ZHZ is ready to bring the rental experience to a new owner.
What was the Corvette ZHZ, though? According to Corvsport, Hertz commissioned 500 2008 copies from Chevrolet to add to their Fun Collection. After a trip up the road from Bowling Green to Bob Hook Chevrolet in Louisville to receive the finishing touches, the fleet wound up in 24 cities across the U.S. A year later, Hertz added 375 convertible ZHZs to the fleet, again going through Bob Hook Chevrolet prior to distribution.
This Corvette ZHZ landed in the seller’s personal collection in 2012. Combined with its time at the rental lot, the ‘Vette’s LS3 logged only 1,200 miles, 100 since 2012. That’s not a whole lot of exercise for the 436 horses sleeping in the corral behind the six-speed auto.
Aside from the Hertz yellow paint, there’s a custom touch on the inside to let the world know this Corvette is special. That, of course, would be the set of ZHZ logos stitched into the console armrest, and the floor and trunk mats. Otherwise, it’s your standard 3LT package.
For most people, the Corvette ZHZ looks like a cool yellow C6. Those in the know, though, know this ‘Vette made more than a few people at the rental counter giddy. May it do so for a long time to come.
