It isn’t every day we see a Polo Green over Saddle 1990 C4 ZR1 Corvette, but there’s a very good reason for that.

Throughout the history of the Corvette, certain colors hold more clout with collectors than others. This is true with early cars, but it’s also true of later generations. Just take this Polo Green C4 ZR1 up for grabs at Autohunter, for example. It’s one of just 1,674 1990 Corvettes produced in this rather attractive hue, 105 of which were ZR1 models with a Saddle interior. As if that wasn’t good enough, this stunning car has only 6,593 miles showing on the odometer, to boot.

This amazing C4 ZR1 is unmodified and original right down to its Goodyear Eagle tires, which have never been changed. And while that may not make it worth a fortune, it does make it special in our eyes, at least. But then again, the fourth-gen ZR1 was a truly special car in its own right, mostly thanks to the engine that resides under that fiberglass hood.

That mill is, of course, the LT5 DOHC V8 that was designed by Lotus and assembled by Mercury Marine before being shipped to Bowling Green for installation in GM’s iconic sports car. The aluminum powerplant is already beefed up from the get-go with forged connecting rods, a cross-drilled crankshaft, Mahle pistons, and myriad other details that help it produce 375 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque, which heads to the rear wheels via a ZF six-speed manual gearbox.

Meanwhile, the C4 ZR1 was also built to be a corner carver, thanks to a suspension designed by Bilstein that was similar to the one used in the revered Porsche 959. Goodies like adjustable dampers and Selective Ride and Handling were a relatively rare sight back in 1990, but the ZR1 was designed to be a truly exotic machine.

The result of all that engineering was a car with impressive performance for its time – 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 12.8 seconds, and a top speed of 175 mph. For those that were around for all of this, the memory of the C4 ZR1 has likely stuck, and it goes without saying that this was an important car in the lengthy history of the Corvette. So in that regard, we say this fine example deserves every little bit of attention it receives.
