Corvette Owner Trades-in C8… for a Mitsubishi Outlander?
Would you trade in a Rapid Blue C8 Corvette for one of the lowest-selling crossovers in the U.S.?
There is no disputing the fact that we Corvette fans are a passionate bunch, and on many occasions, we let our zeal get the best of our judgment. Right now, many customers of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette are patiently waiting for their lauded sports car to arrive, but the deliveries of the first-ever mid-engine ‘Vette are being delayed because of numerous production delays caused by the ongoing global pandemic.
If you are familiar with the rule of demand and supply, you would know that prices of a commodity rise whenever a popular product is in short supply. Some Corvette customers are quickly capitalizing on this phenomenon. Some lucky customers have started flipping their C8 ‘Vettes for exorbitant prices.
Recently, one such customer (Tommy) reached out to Hurst Autoplex and traded in his Rapid Blue C8 Corvette for a Mitsubishi Outlander and we could instantly hear the ‘Vette fandom scream sacrilege. Automotive website Motor1.com managed to get in touch with Kevin Courtney, who is a salesperson at Hurst Autoplex and was responsible for facilitating this uncanny transaction.
Courtney recounts that the customer reached out to the Texas-based car dealer to procure a vehicle. According to Courtney, the customer was well aware of the substantial demand for C8 Corvette in the market and leveraged the sports car’s popularity for an attractive deal.
Reporting on the incident, Associate Editor Anthony Alaniz writes, ”The decision was one of simple economics, something Courtney says he sees often. The C8 owner made a decision based on supply and demand and he now has a vehicle better suited for his needs.”
The popularity of SUVs and crossovers is at an all-time high right now, and Mitsubishi models have not performed well in recent years. Alaniz also cited a recent iSeeCars study which points out, “that the Outlander was one of the slowest-selling vehicles through June 2020.”
The Japanese carmaker continues to sell the crossover in the U.S. even though automotive website Goodcarbadcar.net reports that Mitsubishi did not sell even a single unit of Outlander in the last two months. We are sure that Tommy made a decent profit on his Corvette trade as there is a high demand for first-year C8 Corvettes in the market.
If you still cannot come to terms with Tommy’s decision, then maybe you can find some respite in the fact that at least he did not slap Ferrari badges on his ride.
