The final chapter of the C8 Corvette’s development story offers exciting insights into our beloved Bowling Green sports car.

The C8 Corvette was Chevrolet‘s long-term promise of delivering a benchmark-defining mid-engine sports car and it was not an easy promise to fulfill. The Golden Bow Tie brand recently released another video that chronicles the Corvette Engineering team’s long journey, Revolution: The Mid-Engine Corvette Development Story. The final chapter gives us a glimpse into the development process of our lauded sports cars.

Chevy did not want the C8 Corvette to be just another attractive package with tons of power but also a track scalpel capable of delivering impressive handling dynamics. For this reason, the Corvette development team moved their operations to the historic Nurburgring race track in Germany, which also happens to one of the most challenging tracks in the world. The Nurburgring allows drivers to push cars to their absolute limits and offers straight stretches where the maximum lateral acceleration can be achieved.

The track features 15 corners, which means Nurburgring will highlight every imperfection if the car is not configured properly. This also helped the development team detect and address any issues that needed their attention. During the initial development stages, former Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin shared some feedback about the C8’s steering response with the engineering team, “rather than being linear, it was just sort of, it was sort of increasing and then, then dropping off. It felt unusual, and it didn’t feel as it had, and it was like I had confused the car somehow.”

We recently got a chance to review the C8 Corvette, and we are happy to report that the Bowling Green sports car has come a long way since its early development stages. Other than the Nurburgring, the team also put the C8 through its paces on the Autobahn.

Most of the car’s weight is towards the back thanks to the new vehicle architecture, which means it is a lot easier to put more torque on the track. This allows the driver to accelerate hard between corners as the weight is pushed towards the rear. The Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juecther best described the development team’s objective as, “the Corvette is about providing a driving experience, and so we’re trying to take that to the next level”.
