With the C8, you always get a clear view of the Corvette engine. To truly show it off you need a custom engine cover.
If you get a new C8 coupe you get something that was never available on a Corvette before. That is the ability to see the engine without the need to pop the hood. Seeing the engine is a time-honored tradition in sports cars. Porsche gave up on this as you can’t really see any part of the engine in their sports cars. GM on the other hand knows that seeing the engine is an important aspect of ownership. They not only put it in clear view but also offer the engine cover in several colors. You can also order some LED lighting to get an even better view. However, the engine cover colors are limited to black, silver and red. If you want more options, you are going to need a custom engine cover.
A custom engine cover might not be a must do modification, and it is not going to give you any more power. However, everyone likes to make their Corvette look good and stand out from the crowd a bit. A custom engine cover is an easy way to achieve that goal. Michael Brink wanted a custom cover for his C8. He reached out to the folks at Bad Boy Vettes for a cover designed to his specifications. He recorded his install to share with us on his YouTube channel Brink of Speed. In this video we get to see what an incredible job Bad Boy Vettes did to make this engine bay pop.
The stock engine cover on Brinks Corvette is the basic black cover. It doesn’t look bad of course, but it doesn’t do anything to distinguish itself either. The custom cover on the other hand is a work of art. It is beautifully finished, and the color scheme Brink chose perfectly matches the outside of his car. The other nice thing about this modification is that it is one of the easiest mods you will ever do. Pop out a couple connectors and undo four bolts and the cover is off. Reverse the process and your new cover is on. In less than ten minutes you should be rolling down the road with your custom engine cover.
Brink is more than pleased with the result. “That is beautiful. It looks great on camera. Usually, cameras don’t do justice, but this really does.” Says Brink. Even if you don’t love the color scheme you can’t argue that the level of detail on this piece is fantastic. The paint is perfectly applied, and the finish is impeccable. On the earlier generation cars this could only be enjoyed at car shows when you pop the hood. On this C8, everyone will be able to enjoy this custom cover anytime the Corvette is sitting still. We love simple mods like this that offer such a striking change yet are so easy to do. If you are looking to distinguish your C8 from the crowd, this is a great way to go about it.
Would you do this to your car? If so, what color scheme would you decide? Head on over to the Corvette Forum forums and let us know how you would spec your engine cover.
