C6 Corvette with Cammed LSX Swap

After grenading the original motor, the owner of this tracked C6 Corvette gave it one sweet heart transplant.

To us, nothing sounds sweeter than a cammed LS powerplant. It’s a big part of what has made such a thing so popular in a few generations of Chevy’s Corvette, of course, not to mention how quick they can be with the right modifications. Both of these benefits apply to this C6 Corvette, owned by Linnell, as we can definitively see in this video from Autotopia.

This particular 2008 C6 Corvette was a base model that Linnell drove and enjoyed for some time before he grenaded the original motor, breaking three rods and punching a big hole in the block. Thus, he did the logical thing and treated his car to a heart transplant, swapping in a freshly built LSX with a Stage 4 Brian Tooley cam. The new combo makes a reasonable 500 or so horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque at the wheels.

Behind the new motor lies the original Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission, which has been treated to a clutch from a newer Z06. Linnell takes his C6 Corvette to the track a lot, so he chose to go pretty open with the exhaust – a setup that consists of 1 7/8″ American Racing headers, an x-pipe, and pipes, minus any mufflers. As one might imagine, the car is incredibly loud, but it also sounds seriously amazing.

Outside of mechanical modifications, the C6 has also been treated to quite a few other upgrades, inside and out. That includes a front splitter, side skirts, a rear diffuser, wider front and rear fenders, a giant wing, and an orange wrap. The Corvette grips the road thanks to a set of Signature wheels wrapped in Toyo R888R rubber measuring in at 275 up front and 335 in the rear, which is plenty meaty.

Interestingly, the C6 is still running a mostly stock suspension with new shocks and sway bars, but little else, though coilovers are on the shopping list. Inside the cabin, the track Corvette has a full roll cage, Corbeau seats, harnesses, and an MGW short-throw shifter.

Unsurprisingly, this Corvette proves to be a blast to drive, as it pulls just as good as it sounds. And Linnell does a lot of that, as he regularly drives his car to and from track days without having to change a thing. And if that doesn’t make this dual-purpose car cool, then we don’t know what will.
