Both the C6 Corvette and GT-R are plenty powerful and capable at the track, but what about an unprepped surface?

Hoonigan’s This vs. That series never fails to highlight some of the cooler and more unique builds out there in the world, pitting totally different vehicles against each other in a series of drag races to see which is the quickest. The latest in this ongoing list might just be its fastest pair of cars yet – a 1,700 horsepower C6 Corvette and a 2,000 horsepower R35 Nissan GT-R. It’s truly a battle of drag strip kings and one that’s highly entertaining to watch.

First up, we have the C6 Corvette, which is owned by Jason Joren. The stealthy ride is powered by a 427 cubic-inch LSX that makes big power thanks mostly to a massive 98mm Garrett turbo that’s far too large to fit under any kind of hood. Boost tops out at around 30+ psi at the drag strip, but Joren has turned it down to 15 for this particular race since it’s a bit traction challenged on the street. The big small block is backed up by a two-speed Powerglide gearbox and tips the scales at around 3,200 pounds, though there are 300 pounds of ballast in the trunk on this particular day to help it hook.

On the other side, we have a beasty GT-R owned by Mac Brosnan. The stock motor has been treated to a larger crank and now displaces 4.1 liters, with a pair of 68mm turbos feeding it. That combo is good for a whopping 2,000 horsepower that only has to move around 3,500 pounds, which is why it runs sub-7-second passes in the quarter-mile. Like the Corvette, however, the GT-R has been turned down a bit for this asphalt-based race.

Watching these two cars launch is predictably a treat, but the GT-R’s all-wheel-drive traction advantage is on full display here. Even though the Corvette gets the jump, it winds up smoking the tires, and Brosnan takes advantage by leaping ahead. Regardless, both drivers are fighting the wheel as each car struggles to hook.

The two line up to do it again, but this time the Corvette gets the hit in a 500-foot race. Once again, the GT-R uses its traction and power advantage to muscle around it, and in the bonus round, the Corvette smokes the tires into oblivion. Thus, while we were obviously disappointed that it didn’t beat out the GT-R on this particular day, we can confidently say that these two cars make for one entertaining matchup.
