Complete with several original parts, ’68 Corvette convertible 3x Top Flight winner, Bloomington Gold-, Survivor- and Benchmark-certified.

Every once and a while, a great example of a Corvette rolls through town, drawing eyes and capturing hearts along the way. Maybe it’s a new model with all the right options checked off. Perhaps it’s a stunning build of a classic. Or it’s simply an original that’s aged well. Either way, greatness has a way of making itself known without saying a word.

One such great Corvette is scheduled to cross the red carpet of Mecum Chicago 2021 in mid-October. One decorated with several accolades. All because this ‘Vette is a stand-out example of a survivor.

Sold new in Chicago’s Clark-Maple Chevrolet, this 1968 Corvette convertible doesn’t just have a matching-numbers powertrain, but also all of its original gear. Things like the stock AM/FM radio and clock, smog pump, even the Polar White paint and black soft top. The tank sticker is still on the tank, and its window sticker is still intact and as white as snow.

The powertrain moving this stellar survivor is a 327 V8 with around 300 horsepower moving to the 3.08 Positraction rear through a four-speed manual. Over the past five decades, the V8 logged 41,791 miles. Despite the high miles and age, though, the Corvette is more like a bottle of fine wine than a case of cheap beer.

What a vintage it is, too. Thanks to the excellent maintenance and care, this ’68 Corvette won more awards than anyone could dream of winning. For one, it’s a three-time NCRS Top Flight winner. The feat also garnered a feature in the group’s judging manual for the 1968 Corvette.

Then, there’s Bloomington Gold. Or, rather, Bloomington Gold, Bloomington Survivor and Bloomington Benchmark, all of which the ‘Vette earned in 2017, plus a place in the 2018 Bloomington Gold special collection and advertising. It even stole the show in Europe at the 2017 Geneva Concours d’Elegance, taking best in class for preservation. Finally, it received Triple Diamond and Concours Gold status at the 2017 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals.

It’s not often greatness like this comes along, especially upon the auction block. This ’68 Corvette more than earned its place among the greats.
