Amazing C2 Split-Window Restomod Is the New/Old Corvette We Need
If Chevrolet was ever to build and sell a brand new C2 split-window Corvette, it should look just like this.
Corvettes are undoubtedly one of the most popular cars on the planet to restomod, and as much as we love original, vintage machines, it’s hard to argue with the results of a little modernization. But while many restomods choose to go a bit too far in the visual department, this insanely beautiful C2 split-window Corvette headed to Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in March is one of the most tasteful we’ve ever seen. In fact, if Chevy was to produce a new C2 split-window ’63 Corvette, we think it should look just like this.
Like a proper concours restoration, this C2 was treated to a frame-off redo of the highest degree. The only difference here is that instead of retaining the original mechanicals, the owner opted to upgrade them with more modern components. That starts with a C7 LT4 6.2-liter mill that cranks out an even 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, mated to a T56 six-speed manual gearbox fitted with a Monster twin-disc hydraulic clutch.
To ensure this classic Corvette can handle that extra power, an SRIII chassis was mated to the vintage ride and fitted with the suspension parts and trans-axle from a C6 Corvette, along with QA1 adjustable shocks. A C6 Corvette also supplied the brakes at all four corners as well.
The exterior of this C2 split-window Corvette is the moneymaker, however, and it’s as gorgeous as one might expect. Maserati Silver Grigio Nuvolari Metallic PPG paint covers one of the greatest automotive designs ever conceived, which was left mostly alone, save for mildly tucked bumpers. The ’63 rolls on a set of custom wheels by Mike Curtis Design – which look like larger versions of classic rollers – wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
Paul Atkins Interiors was tapped to redo the cabin, which now represents the perfect blend of new and old with custom-built seats, Dakota Digital HDX gauges, a custom dash by Dashworks, a Vintage Air Gen IV climate control, and a Billet Specialties steering wheel, all done up in a tasty mixture of Lipstick Red with Charcoal accents.
Add it all up, and you’ve got one of the most tasteful Corvette restomods we’ve ever seen. The casual observer may never even realize that this C2 is anything special, and while some may not like that, we think that the car’s subtle nature only adds to its already undeniable appeal.
