C4 ZR1 Medium Quasar Blue Metallic

Finished in a rare color with few miles and just two owners, this C4 ZR1 is well on its way to selling for big money.

In recent years, it seems like the C4 ZR1 is finally starting to get a little bit of respect from collectors after being essentially ignored for some time. Regardless, this cool piece of performance engineering is still essentially a bargain, but that likely won’t be the case with this example currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, for a number of reasons.

For starters, this C4 ZR1 is finished in a lovely shade of Medium Quasar Blue Metallic, which makes it reportedly one of just 19 painted that color in the 1990 model year. It’s also in simply incredible condition, thanks to the fact that it has a mind-blowingly low 1,100 original miles. The original owner purchased the car and kept it until 2008, and the second owner has only added 500 miles since then.

As a result, this is easily one of the nicest ZR1s we’ve ever seen from this generation. The exterior of the car looks absolutely flawless, and in fact, there are no flaws listed. The black leather seats have a little bit of wrinkling in them, but that’s to be expected. Otherwise, there’s no major wear to be found anywhere, as this Corvette was clearly kept in tip-top shape by both owners.

The star of the proverbial show here is the ZR1’s all-aluminum 5.7-liter dual-overhead-cam V8, of course, which was built by Mercury Marine as all Corvette fans already know. Its 375 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque were enough to make it one of the fastest cars you could buy during this era, going head to head with far more expensive exotics. This particular ZR1’s single flaw can be found here as well – the secondary injection system is malfunctioning and needs some work.

Otherwise, this C4 ZR1 has it all – a rare color, all the documentation one could want, and the prominence of being one of the greatest cars from its era, even if that era wasn’t the greatest from a performance standpoint. For those reasons, bidding has been brisk thus far, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this King of the Hill Corvette set a new high mark on the pricing front.
