90 Year Old Vet Buys New 2021 Corvette in Best Birthday Present Ever!
Longtime Corvette driver made his 90th birthday epic, treating himself to a brand new 2021 C8 Corvette.
There are days when we love our job. It is those days when we get to share stories of exceptional people and exceptional Corvettes. And it just doesn’t get much more so than Chuck Cook, a Corvette fan from Leesburg, VA who knows how to throw one heck of a birthday party.
Cook recently turned 90, and he wanted to do something a little special to mark the tremendous occasion. As a man who has been driving Corvettes for decades, there was only thing he really wanted. So he called his local Chevrolet dealer and ordered a 2021 C8 Corvette. Brand new. In red.
Oh yeah, Chuck has been around for 90 years, you better believe the man knows how to party.
“This is my birthday present to myself,” Cook told Daily Commercial news. “I’ve owned corvettes since 1981 when I bought my first one. This makes my fourth one in my lifetime. I can’t wait until the pandemic is over so I can get this to all the car shows.”
The former aircraft specialist and U.S. Air Force veteran first got interested in Corvettes while living in Michigan. He purchased his first Corvette in 1981; interestingly his was one of the last Corvettes to roll of the lines in St. Louis.
Being in the service, Cook was moved often, and his Corvette went with him across the country. He finally traded in his C3 and has since owned a 2001 C5 Corvette, and a 2014 C7 Corvette. But of course, getting the mid-engined C8 is especially thrilling.
Wanting to celebrate the moment he took ownership of his ‘Vette, Cook was joined by his wife Barabara, and members of the Touch of Glass Corvette Club–which Cook was also founding member.
Not only was this exciting for Cook, but for the dealership as well.
“This was the first 2021 Corvette to hit our lot,” says Buzzy York of Cecil Clark Chevrolet. “It was great being able to celebrate with him for his upcoming birthday and also have the first 2021 Corvette to come here.”
The dealer even turned it up, presenting the 90-year-old veteran with a blowout and Corvette cake.
Of course, Cook is just ready to hit the road. In the Corvette, that is. As the Chevy fan noted, “I have a 2018 Equinox as my ‘grocery getter’ as I call it.”
“I’ve been driving Corvettes for 40 years,” Cook said. “It’s my fun car.”
We wish Mr. Cook a very Happy Birthday, and hope that he spent the special day doing what he loves, hitting the road in a sweet new Corvette.
