Vintage 1967 Corvette Stingray keeps its original character but artfully uses a 427 to infuse modern performance and handling.
Classic Corvettes are always capable of inspiring awe and envy. Whether at an auto event, or just turning heads on the road; a retro Corvette is a star. Each glimpse at the past is a unique chapter in the evolution of Chevy Corvette. This 1967 Corvette Stingray is a beauty from the C2 era. It embraces everything that makes the 1967 Corvette special. And then it really interesting.
This week’s Torque Tuesday, we focus on a restomod that expands power with subtlety and deference to the C2 Corvette.
The C2 Corvette ran from 1963 to 1967. It was an era that saw many changes to the sports car. In 1966, Chevy added the 427 CID engine which could make 425 HP available. Holley Carburetors were standard with all engines. Other aspects of note was the energy-absorbing steering column and a dual master cylinder brake system.
While 1966 ‘Vettes sold in greater numbers, the 1967 Stingray was possibly the most realized C2. To paraphrase Frank Sinatra–another American legend–it was a very good year. 1967 Corvette Stingray has it all.
Built by Verrillo Motor Car Co. (VMC), this restomod uses a few unconventional methods in their build. Possibly the biggest change is using a Dart small block Chevy 427, which makes 590 HP. It includes a FI Tech Mean Street fuel injection and 5-speed Tremec TKO transmission and a sweet Hurst Sidewinder shifter.
VMC’s team used a C4 Corvette suspension, and C6 Z06 brakes. In keeping with the era, the exterior has all the details. From the hood with 427 badging to the classic C2 Corvette badge.

It is perfectly cool in Marina Blue Paint with White Stinger, a theme that that continues to the backside of hood and interior. Custom fabricated quarter panels and fenders allow the coupe to handle larger wheels.
A teak steering wheel is a highlight of the already pristine interior. Clean, detailed, and a perfect 1967 Corvette. With a serious kick of 590 horses, this ’67 Stingray has improved steering, braking, and handling. Verrillo clearly built the restomod with a clear idea of how to retain its 1967 uniqueness and add to that.
The vintage 1967 Corvette charm and might is still the main event. But the new performance is a combo of Corvette excellence.
