Would You Ever Consider a Tesla Plaid Over a C8 Corvette Z06?

Corvette Forum members seem to unsurprisingly prefer the glorious-sounding C8 Corvette Z06 over the silent but deadly EV.

It’s pretty evident that we’re at a crossroads in terms of the automobile and what powers it, with EVs becoming more and more prevalent. It seems inevitable that in our lifetime, the ICE-powered vehicle will quite literally become a thing of the past, much like the horse and buggy and steam-powered engine. This even applies to the Corvette, which is destined to become electrified in the coming years, while cars like the Tesla Model S Plaid are already taking over drag strips across America. And that poses a very interesting question that popped up in this Corvette Forum thread recently – would you ever consider purchasing a Plaid over the lastest, greatest, and perhaps last new naturally-aspirated, non-electrified C8 Corvette Z06?

It’s obviously tough to compare a car like the C8 Corvette Z06 to any EV, even one that runs low 9s in the quarter-mile, because it is a machine that produces some of the most glorious mechanical sounds we’ve ever heard, while the Plaid – as insanely fast as it is – is, well, silent. And while the new Z06 may never beat the Plaid in a drag race, that sort of thing doesn’t matter to folks like member Pre-Z06. “Drove a C8 with Comp seats at autocross and went for a ride in the Plaid today, the latter doesn’t do anything for me honestly. I would definitely choose a Z06 as I’d take the Z51 over it even if it loses by bus lengths,” he said.

For some, it seems that running the fastest time at the drag strip doesn’t matter one bit. “I don’t care if the Tesla can beat a Top Fuel dragster, I’ll take the Z06/Z07 over that glorified golf cart,” added SBR. Others pointed out that the Z06 should beat the Plaid if the two meet on a track that has curves, which would undoubtedly be a more competitive scenario.

Even those that have driven and owned Teslas don’t seem to think there’s much of a comparison here, either. “I have had Teslas, yea they’re fast, but you’re tired of it in a week, or less,” said hcvone. “Mine were good with no problems, but there were always Corvettes in the garage, and I would NEVER choose a Tesla over a Vette, but some of everything is good too.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the overwhelming majority of Corvette Forum members who have chimed in on this thread so far aren’t quite as enthusiastic about the Plaid as they are about the next great track-focused version of America’s favorite sports car.
