Will the 2023 Corvette Z06 Be the Rare Car That Never Depreciates?
The 2023 Corvette Z06 was heavily influenced by the greatest mid-engine Ferrari ever, but will it appreciate like the 458?
We’re truly living in some strange times, aided by an economy that surged following COVID-19 induced lockdowns last year that has had a tremendous impact on the entire automotive market. This upside-down world has resulted in quite a few used vehicles being worth more than new ones, which are incredibly hard to find thanks to a number of supply chain issues. The C8 Corvette Stingray remains in high demand and low supply to this day, driving prices skyward, and the 2023 Corvette Z06 figures to follow the same path, at the very least. Thus, Corvette Forum member International Blue believes that the newest Z06 may never depreciate as most all cars do at some point.
“While many contend there will be a cooling of affection for the car when the numbers satisfy the demand as before, I take a contrarian view,” he said. “There has never been a car like this, not with any other manufacturer and certainly not Corvette. We live in a new landscape of reduced supply. I feel that in 2030, the thing Z06 owners may hear most at Cars and Coffee is the lamentation of the person who flipped their new Z06 back in the heated days of 2023. ‘And so I sold the car for $30,000 over sticker thinking I could get another one later…who knew what would happen next, and….what was I thinking?’”
International Blue uses Ferrari as an example – which, as we just reported, served as a major source of inspiration during the development of the C8 Stingray and 2023 Corvette Z06. The Corvette team found the twin-turbocharged 488 to be far less soulful than its naturally-aspirated predecessor, the 458, and today, collectors agree. The 458 has become a highly sought-after vehicle and is widely considered to be the greatest mid-engine Ferrari ever built, thanks mostly to its high-revving, sweet-sounding N/A powerplant.
The C8 Z06 follows that path as the Corvette team focused heavily on the way it sounds and the driving experience it provides, which should resonate heavily with enthusiasts who care more about the way a car makes them feel, rather than going for ultimate performance at all costs. Does that mean that it will become the next appreciating asset in the automotive world? Well, that remains to be seen, but there’s no denying that the new Z06 has the pedigree to make it happen. Plus, it may just be the last great N/A Corvette ever built, given the looming rise of electrification.
