Wild Custom C2 Corvette Looks Like a Toy, Costs $400k
It will take the right person to fall in love with this insane, life-size Hot Wheels of a custom C2 Corvette.
We’ve seen our fair share of heavily modified Corvettes over the years, ranging from mild to wild. Oftentimes, these cars fall into two camps – retro customs that were originally built decades ago or designed to look that way, or restomods, which combine mostly stock appearances with modern underpinnings. This insane custom C2 Corvette that’s up for sale at Prestige Imports is a bit of a hybrid between the two, combining some truly amazing craftsmanship with a heavily-restyled body and a new drivetrain to create something that looks like a life-size toy car.
The exterior indeed looks like something you’d see on a Hot Wheels or George Barris model of some sort, with a chopped roof and reshaped body panels giving this custom C2 Corvette a totally new aesthetic. The entire body has been smoothed out, the headlights and taillights relocated, and all of the trim and badging eliminated. While listed as a 1964 Corvette, this car also has a split window out back, and the whole thing is covered in a retina-searing orange hue with giant chrome wheels and side pipes.
The interior carries over that theme with blazing orange everywhere, from the dash and the carpet to the C5 Corvette seats and billet steering wheel. Airbrushed flames adorn the door panels, while a newer stereo system, Stewart Warner gauges, and a Hurst pistol grip shifter complete the look.
Underneath, the vintage Corvette has been treated to a modern overhaul consisting of a C4 Corvette’s suspension fitted to a Jamison chassis. The C2 is powered by a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 of unknown origin, which is mated to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. Power flows to the rear wheels via a differential fitted with 3.73 gears for brisk performance, not to mention a tame and reliable driving experience.
It’s clear that someone put a lot of money and effort into making this C2 Corvette a life-size Hot Wheels of sorts, and the asking price of $399,950 reflects that. It’s an incredible sum for any car, especially one that’s been customized so heavily. For this wild machine to find a new home, it will take someone who both likes the look and has the means to buy it, and that might prove difficult even in these crazy times.
