A decade after his father sold his 40th Anniversary Corvette, his son finds it looking for something similar.
Most of us automotive enthusiasts got our passion for automobiles from someone else, generally a parent or grandparent. We grow up admiring that person’s vehicle(s), dreaming of a day when we might own it ourselves. That’s true of Josh Hudgens of Knox, Indiana, who grew up riding around in his dad’s 1993 40th Anniversary Corvette convertible. But a decade ago, the senior Hudgens decided to sell his Corvette, and the younger Hudgens didn’t think he’d ever see it again.
“I remember going to the soccer games, just cruising down country roads,” Hudgens told WNDU News. “Riding with dad, we would go out to eat. We would cruise around the backroads, always going the speed limits of course, but I fell in love with the car ever since then. Like all Corvettes or older cars, especially in Northwest Indiana, they all don’t get driven. Dad decided to sell it.”
Years went by, but Hudgens never forgot about his dad’s 40th Anniversary Corvette. He recently got the desire to buy a car to cruise around in and began scanning the classifieds looking for something similar. “My wife and I enjoy cruising around. I have a Ford Focus which isn’t exactly the best cruising car. So I’ve had the itch to have something to cruise around with for a while. I wanted something similar to what my dad had. I was scrolling through Facebook Marketplace and I saw one that looked just like his.”
The Corvette listed for sale was located a few hours away from Hudgens’ home in Argos, so he began talking to the seller to get more information. And that’s when he made a startling discovery. “The VIN number was the exact VIN number of the car that my dad sold ten years ago that I completely found on accident on Facebook 10 years later,” Hudgens said.
Hudgens struck a deal and brought home the 40th Anniversary Corvette, bringing it back to the same family that purchased it new nearly 30 years ago, and that certainly went over well with the original owner, who likely regrets selling it in the first place. “He is very happy that it’s back in the family and I think, we believe, back where it belongs,” Hudgens said.
