The question is, can GM actually built that many 2023 Corvette Z06 models, or is it just wishful thinking?

As most are well aware of already, automotive production has proven to be a massive challenge for over two years now thanks to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and numerous supply chain constraints. It’s unclear when these problems may be rectified, but at the moment, we’re still seeing hot new vehicles roll off assembly lines at a snail’s pace, while demand remains high. That will undoubtedly include the 2023 Corvette Z06, though Corvette Forum member kman52 was told by his dealer that GM is aiming to produce a healthy 10,000 units in the model’s first year of production.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of other members are highly skeptical of this lofty goal. “How in the world will they get 10k Z06s out when we are already over halfway through 2022 and not a single customer order has been built?” asked extermin8r. “I wouldn’t go by what a dealer says unless it’s someone like Mike Furman,” said DaveFerrari458. “I have a feeling GM is not going to produce as many Z06s as people might think. It’s just a guess that they might go the Porsche route on the Z06 and produce one less than demand to create a false sense of elevated demand.”

However, this doesn’t mean that GM can’t necessarily pump out 10k 2023 Corvette Z06 models in a year, as Telepierre points out. “Starting August 1, Bowling Green can theoretically crank out 920 cars per week for the next 22 weeks till December 31. A total of 20,240 cars. That means for calendar year 2022, 50% of the remaining production would be going to the Z06. It’s possible, but we will also have to see how it impacts the base C8 queue. Maybe they timed the demand and supply just right.”

“I said this before, I heard from my GM contact that Chevy plans to produce 7,000-8,000 Z06s per year,” said FlipMyZ06. “I would hope with the demand so high, they would do more. But we’re in different times now. With the pandemic that happened in 2020, part shortages, chip shortages, recession looming, etc. It may very well be less than 8,000 Z06s per year. Fingers crossed, we all get through this and get the car we want.”

Right now, it’s anyone’s guess as to how many Z06s GM plans to build, as well as how many it will actually be able to build. Regardless, we’re curious to hear what you think – can GM produce 10k units in one year, or is this just wishful thinking? Head over here and give us your opinion on this hot topic!
