Prospective C8 Z06 Buyers Cross-Shopping It With Some Pricey Alternatives
From Porsches to Lamborghinis, prospective C8 Z06 buyers are comparing it to some pretty expensive rides.
While we don’t yet know how much the new C8 Corvette Z06 will cost, we can assume that it will represent a bargain relative to its incredible performance, as is the case with the base Stingray. And that makes cross-shopping the track-focused screamer a tough task. Regardless, this thread in the Corvette Forum reveals some interesting choices when it comes to what prospective C8 Z06 buyers are cross-shopping it with.
Right off the bat, the Porsche 911 GT3 and Viper ACR are mentioned, which just shows how lofty C8 Z06 buyers have to go for a suitable performance alternative. After all, used 911 GT3 models aren’t cheap, and new ones start north of $160k – far more than the C8 Z06 will likely retail for. The Viper ACR has been out of production for years, and prices have increased significantly in recent months to boot.
Others take a far less expensive approach, seemingly willing to give up the Z06’s incredible track performance potential to save a few bucks. Choices there include the Cadillac CT5-V and Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye, both of which are better straight-line bruisers than track mavens. Unfortunately, many of these cars – particularly the special-edition Porsches – are tough to get at the moment given the state of the market.
Regardless, some of the vehicles tossed around in this thread as Z06 alternatives are quite interesting – the Porsche 718 GT4 RS (which actually might be in the Z06’s price range), the Lotus Emira, Audi R8, 911 Turbo and GTS, Maserati MC20, and even the Lamborghini Huracan. Thing is, most of these vehicles obviously cost far more than the Z06 likely will, ranging from a few thousand up to as much as six figures.
Then again, perhaps the Z06 has no true direct competitor, as International Blue points out. “I think for most there is no alternative car. I am getting a Z06 because it is unique and different, and a very special Corvette. If it was just a more powerful C8, I believe it would be different and the standard C8 would be a competitor. But this car and its unusual engine make it collectible and unique in the marketplace. There really are no comps for this one.”
