The National Corvette Museum was the one doing the donating this time around, and it’ll go to a great cause, too.

The National Corvette Museum – aside from constantly changing its always-interesting exhibits and hosting various events – also has plenty of amazing Corvettes on display at any given time. Many of those cars are donated to the museum so that they can be enjoyed by its many thousands of visitors each year, for many years to come. However, it was the National Corvette Museum doing the donating recently when it gifted a red C8 Corvette to its hometown Bowling Green Fire Department.

The C8 – which has a VIN ending in 911, fittingly – will see quite a bit of use by the department. Not for putting out fires or racing to them, of course, but rather, the Bowling Green Fire Department will take the blazing red sports car out for school prevention classes, parades, and other special events. The department is leasing the car to the city of Bowling Green for a mere $1 so that it can embark on these missions, but it won’t be sticking around for long.

That’s because on November 19, the C8 will be raffled off at the 8th annual Fireman’s Ball at the National Corvette Museum, a fundraiser for the Bowling Green Firefighters Association. That group hosts a number of charitable efforts in town, including its Shop with a Firefighter program that pairs up firefighters with underprivileged children during the holidays, as well as Thanksgiving basket purchases in November for needy families.

“Working here going on 125 years, you know, this year and we’ve had this Corvette plant here for quite some time,” Bowling Green Fire Chief Justin Brooks told WBKO ABC 13. “It just seemed like a seamless team to build here with building our Corvette with the last three on the VIN number being 911. With them being in our backdoor, us having their logo on our patch, our brand. This was about team.”
