C8 Corvette Owner Shoots Carjacker

Yet another attempted C8 Corvette theft ends in a bad way for the thief when the owner fights back.

With automotive theft on the rise, many fear becoming a victim of crime, particularly in certain parts of the world where that sort of thing runs rampant. It also became very real for the owner of a C8 Corvette in Houston, Texas recently when someone tried to carjack their Rapid Blue sports car after they left a restaurant around 4 am. However, this C8 Corvette owner had a firearm on them, and when the attempted carjacking occurred, they shot the offender, who later died, according to ABC 13 News.

For whatever reason, the suspect apparently jumped on another moving vehicle nearby that wasn’t involved in what was happening before falling off in a nearby parking lot. There were, however, a few witnesses nearby, in spite of the fact that this all went down in the early morning hours. “A couple of witnesses did see the vast majority of what occurred,” said Houston Police Detective Jason Campbell. “That shooter is cooperating with our investigation and he has since been transported down to (HPD headquarters) where he is being interviewed by detectives. That suspect is dead on scene via gunshot wounds.”

The witnesses that were nearby when all of this happened backed up the C8 Corvette owner’s story, saying that the man approached the vehicle in the parking lot at around 4 am. Police believe that the man could have been after both the Corvette and the owner’s personal belongings, which is what prompted the defensive act, though they did not disclose of the carjacker had a gun as well. “He felt his life was in danger, and was able to return fire and shoot the man two or three times,” Campbell said.

This incident is still under investigation, but it highlights the fact that owning a desirable, exotic-looking vehicle also makes it quite desirable to thieves as well. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen someone try to steal a C8, and it most certainly won’t be the last, either.
