Barbie’s latest ride appears to be some sort of strange, stylized electric C1 Corvette in the upcoming live-action movie.
Of the many things that the Corvette has been associated with over the years, the Barbie franchise is certainly one of the more iconic. Barbie – everyone’s favorite doll – has “owned” lots of cars over the years, starting with an Austin Healy back in 1962. However, the folks behind Barbie – Mattel – wanted the all-American girl to drive an all-American car, and the Barbie Corvette was born just a few years later. Pink versions of the iconic model have become Barbie’s signature ride, and it appears that will also be the case with the forthcoming live action Barbie movie, though her newest ride looks like it could be something completely different – an electric C1 Corvette.
Warner Bros. Pictures posted one single teaser image on Instagram showing Barbie – who is played by actress Margot Robbie – and a small portion of her latest Corvette, which bears a couple of interesting details. For starters, there’s a “fuel door” present in the front driver’s side cove, which is not where that particular item is located on a stock C1. That might not seem too unusual at first, but when we move down the side even further, things get even stranger.
Peek at the “Chevrolet” script, also located in the cove – which is also not original to this model – and you’ll notice that the letters “ev” are finished in a bright blue hue. This is also the case with the forthcoming Silverado EV, and seems to signal that Barbie will indeed be driving around town in an electric C1 Corvette, which is rather interesting.

There are a lot more strange things going on in this particular photo, including the fact that there appears to be a rear seat behind Robbie, which the C1 obviously didn’t come with. At the same time, the car itself looks quite small with Robbie in the front seat, but perhaps this isn’t a surprise given the fact that she’s playing the live action version of a toy. It’s quite possible that the idea behind the film is something like Toy Story, where a doll comes to life, but we’ll certainly learn more ahead of the film’s release in theaters on July 21, 2023.
