How Do You Handle People Who Hate on Your Corvette?

One ‘Corvette Forum’ member reveals how his friends seem to be a bit critical of his decision to own one.

As you work your way up in life and start making a little more money, funny things tend to happen – lots of people, friends included, tend to get a bit envious of your success. Perhaps things aren’t going quite as well for them, and they take that out on you for whatever reason. That’s precisely the case with Corvette Forum member PLC8, who recently started this thread asking his fellow members why this might be happening to him, and how they handle it.

“I love my new car and I haven’t been boastful that I have it,” PLC8 said. “The only way anyone knows I have it is if they come over and we go to the garage. I have heard so many negative comments about why I would need such a car, why would you buy something like that, etc. So much negativity. I guess it’s jealousy, but it sure is a downer Has anyone else experienced this reaction from anyone?”

As expected, this thread has expanded quickly with quite a bit of great advice, including this excellent tidbit from PopsC8. “I normally say ‘I’ve never apologized for being successful, and I’m not going to start today.” At the same time, RKCRLR has a different theory for what might be happening here.

“I wouldn’t attribute it all to jealousy,” he said. “Many people view a car as an appliance to get from point A to point B. Some like to enjoy the time between point A and point B and are willing to settle for less practicality to increase the enjoyment. I think this is especially true for older generations that grew up when more people modified cars for performance and could only dream of the power and refinement of today’s cars – that is taken for granted. My wife doesn’t see the point of getting a Corvette when you can get a quiet, comfortable car with four doors and a back seat for less money. But she humors me.”
