Gorgeous 1958 Corvette Restomod Is One Fine Piece of Craftsmanship
This stunning 1958 Corvette restomod is finely detailed and expertly built, making it a desirable auction item.
Corvette restomods are a dime a dozen these days, which is a testament to how popular the concept of modernizing a beautiful old car really is. It makes perfect sense to want to combine the timeless styling of an early Corvette with the modern mechanicals of a later one, and we’ve seen many attempt this feat, with the results ranging from just OK to absolutely stunning. This 1958 Corvette restomod going up for grabs at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction next week certainly falls in the latter category and is truly an amazing piece of craftsmanship with supreme quality and fine details everywhere you look.
On the outside, the builder took this 1958 Corvette restomod down to the bare fiberglass before refinishing it in PPG Jet Black and Global High Solids clear. The panel gaps were perfected during this process, which is what one might expect from such a high-caliber build. Meanwhile, a set of one-off EVOD wheels designed to look like the originals fits that style perfectly, and they’re wrapped in modern Nitto rubber with whitewalls for a similarly new/old look.
The same goes for the interior, which is fitted with a Vintage Air HVAC system, a custom dashboard, bucket seats, door panels, and gauges, the bulk of which is covered in red leather. The stereo looks like the original Wonderbar unit but is actually a brand new piece that feeds sound to Focal speakers and a subwoofer.
As one might have guessed by now, this C1 has also received a complete mechanical overhaul, starting with a brand new 6.2-liter V8 under the hood that is rated to produce 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. That modern powerplant is mated to a 4L75E automatic transmission, while the classic Corvette rides on an Art Morrison C7 chassis with JRI coilovers and adjustable ride height. A set of Wilwood C7 brakes with 6-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors brings the whole thing to a stop in a hurry.
Overall, this 1958 Corvette is a truly amazing piece of work and has just traveled just 650 miles since it was completed. It’s a lock to attract significant interest at auction, as has been the case with fine restomods in recent months, and we’re certainly interested to see just how much someone is willing to pay for it.
