The beloved LS7 – which became a star in the C6 Z06 and Camaro Z/28 – is already gone from GM’s catalog.

Fans of the internal combustion engine are facing a tough future at the moment as automakers begin to pivot to all-electric power, that much is obvious. And while we continue to hang on to our beloved ICE-powered Corvettes, it seems like these amazing machines are living on borrowed time. It won’t be long before they begin to disappear in favor of EVs, and another sobering preview of that silent future has come, as General Motors has quietly discontinued the beloved LS7 V8, according to Road & Track.

R&T reached out to the automaker after a Reddit user noticed that both the LS7 and LS427/570 had suddenly disappeared from the Chevrolet Performance website, and a spokesperson confirmed the depressing news, noting that it “plans to fulfill all current orders until its inventory of the engines has been depleted.” This is not a major surprise at least, as news of the LS7’s impending demise leaked out a year and a half ago.

That doesn’t make the news any easier to swallow, of course, as it’s quite likely GM won’t be replacing the LS7 with some other ICE offering. That’s a shame, as the LS7 made a name for itself by displacing a rather large for a small block 427 cubic inches, cranking out an impressive 505 horsepower when it launched in the C6 Z06 and later becoming available in the Camaro Z/28. The mighty powerplant earned its fair share of fans before becoming available in crate engine form, too.

Of course, GM performance fans still have their fair share of awesome crate engines to choose from, for the time being. That includes a host of ICE engines from the LT and LS families, carbureted offerings, and the mighty new ZZ632, which cranks out over 1,000 horsepower on pump gas. We truly live in the golden era of performance, but at the same time, this peak also looks likely to ever top itself, at least in terms of gas-powered motivation.
