First Smart Active Aero C8 Corvette Debuts at SEMA (Torque Tuesday Presented by Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus)

Victor Racing’s Smart Active Aero created for the C8 Corvette masters downforce with self-adjusting rear wing. 

When the C8 Corvette made its debut, it was an instant legend. The now mid-engine layout allowed the C8 Corvette to truly go off. Chevy exceeded expectations with the newly-designed Corvette. No matter the road, the C8 showed it was built to slay and thrill with verve. It is perfect.

Well, almost. Victor Racing saw potential to do more with the Corvette. It has superior engineering, so much style, and a soul- and spine-stirring performance. But the team at VR is well versed in all things racing. So they got to work developing a C8 active aero kit that made a tangible impact.

This week’s Torque Tuesday will look at how Victor Racing created a bombshell by focusing on the rear wing.

Drivers often add and utilize a range of aerodynamic components to improve stability s well as make and manage downforce. Plus it adds bold styling–especially with all the delicious carbon fiber. A problem with these aero kits is that it wasn’t adding as much power as it could; especially with a rear wing and spoiler that didn’t budge.

With a static wing, the attack angle is likewise fixed. When the C8 is driving at slower speeds it it isn’t generating enough downforce; and at high speeds it is pushing out too much drag. It is a difficult balance.

Victor Racing has developed Corvettes and aero setups for quite some time. Honestly, the C8 Corvette was a bit of the ultimate final exam. If it wasn’t already getting warm, they were releasing the new kit at a huge auto event: the 2021 SEMA Show.

The ACT-C8 Smart Active Wing is brilliant, so kickass, and effective. Plus the active aero is reasonably priced, and it fits all C8 Corvettes including the Z06 and future unreleased models.

An active aero wing can self-adjust settings to get the best performance. VR’s ACT-C8 Smart Active Wing has a 70” carbon fiber airfoil controlled by dual fast-acting actuators for variable downforce. Powered up, the smart tech gets information from onboard sensors, software, and other components. Then it automatically positions the wing accordingly to get the optimal ride.

Five wing positions are available: DRS, Downforce 1, Downforce 2, Downforce 3, and Aerobraking.

· Multiple Modes includes Demo, Manual, and Automatic. Demo mode will move the wing for display. Manual Mode allows the driver to manually override the presets and run the wing into any desired positions. Automatic Mode is the normal operating mode; with the built-in computer and sensors controlling the wing as per its settings
