Proceeds from the auction of the first retail C8 Z06 to benefit Operation Homefront, providing financial aid to military families in need.

It was only a matter of time. Someone out there would get their hands on the first retail C8 Z06 to put on the auction block. And that someone is, of course, Barrett-Jackson. The auction house will bring their Z06 into their big tent at around 8:30 pm Mountain on January 29, 2022 near the end of the second-to-final day of their big party in the deserts surrounding Scottsdale, Arizona.

Per Barrett-Jackson, 100% of the final bid will benefit Operation Homefront. The non-profit’s mission is to “build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive — not simply struggle to get by — in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.” Operation Homefront accomplishes their mission through three programs covering everything from transitional and permanent housing, to financial support for when times are harder than usual.

This isn’t the first “first C8” to enter Barrett-Jackson’s big tent. The very first C8 Corvette crossed the block in Scottsdale in January 2020, where NASCAR legend and Corvette fan Rick Hendrick dropped $3 million for it. Months later, the first C8 Convertible entered the big tent in Scottsdale, going to its new home for $400,000. Both times, the proceeds were for charity (Detroit Children’s Fund and United Way of Southeastern Michigan, respectively). Barrett-Jackson also auctioned off their first “non-charity” C8 lot in the fall of 2020, a 2020 Torch Red coupe with 686 miles that went for $125,400.

This time, though, the C8 Z06 will be the one to burn it all down on the block. The 5.5-liter LT6 derived from the C8.R delivers 670 horsepower to the rear. Larger wheels front and rear firmly plant those horses down upon the track, while the Z06’s overall design is built to maximize performance. And with the flat-plane crankshaft helping the LT6 make its thunderous noise through the floating exhaust bezels, everyone will be put on notice.

The only question left to ask is how much the first retail C8 Z06 will retail for when the hammer falls. Could it match the very first C8? The first C8 Convertible? Surpass them all? We’ll learn soon enough.
