C4 Torch Red on BAT

This is not the only 1994 Torch Red C4 Corvette with a 6-speed manual. But it might be the best one in existence!

The Bowling Green plant produced 5,073 Torch Red C4 Corvettesin 1994. Roughly one-fifth, or 1,000 of those cars were convertibles. Of those convertibles, around 29% were equipped with manual transmissions. Doing the math, less than 300 1994 Torch Red convertibles came equipped with 6-speed manuals. Which most likely that means this 1994 Corvette C4 convertible on Bring A Trailer may be the nicest one in existence!

The C4 Corvette was in it’s 10th year of production in 1994. The C5 loomed over the horizon and the C4 looked dated. To Chevrolet’s credit, they continued making improvements to the C4. They introduced a new dashboard in 1990 with a mix of analog and digital gauges. New styling for 1991 featured a revised front facia and squared off taillights. The 300 h.p. LT1 motor launched in 1992, keeping the Corvette’s performance respectable. Even today, the LT1 equipped C4s are an incredible performance bargain.

This C4 convertible is a three owner car that spent all of its life in California. It’s basically stock original with the exception of the CORSA performance exhaust. With 8,000 miles, it’s practically new.

Corvettes always look good in red and Torch Red is a particularly nice hue. The color really stands out on this car, with it’s 17 inch “saw blade” wheels and black top. Chevrolet revised the interior with new seats and trim, the major change for 1994. This Corvette’s interior is black and includes a full list of amenities. Automatic climate control, power seats, and an AM/FM cassette CD stereo.

The 5.7 liter LT1 small-block V8 was a giant leap over the L98. Not only did it pack a mighty 300 h.p. punch, but it pulled harder to 5500 rpm. This kind of power seems mundane today. Minivans and four cylinder Mustangs make more power from smaller engines. But in the early 90’s it was a lot. And it kept the Corvette competitive with Porsche as well as new kids like the Nissan 300ZX and Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4.

Even in its twilight years, the C4 Corvette was a great car. And today it’s one of the best performance bargains out there. The ZR-1 of that era still trades for under $50,000. And a good low mileage LT1 still sneaks in below $15,000. Best of all, the C4 is so useable. It’s practical and reliable enough to be a daily driver. Parts are as close as your local auto store. And if something goes wrong, you won’t have to take out a second mortgage to get it repaired.

This particular C4 previously sold for $21,500 on Bring A Trailer in November. But the winner backed out. This was not due to any fault with the vehicle or with the seller. So if you’re looking for a super nice C4, you have a second shot at this one. And as a rare 6-speed convertible in Torch Red, it’s unlikely you’ll see another one soon.
