It has not been a good week for Corvettes and SUVs. The latest crash occurs because the dumbest C8 Corvette driver you will likely ever see decided to let his buddy ride on the trunk while he drove watching his buddy and not the Lexus SUV, he was about to rear end. The best part about this being the year 2022 is that you know this was captured on video and promptly shared with the world. And because no one appears to have been injured we can all sit back and have a good laugh at the expense of this idiot driver.

The Corvette driver’s friend riding on the trunk is not too bright either. It is one thing to not wear a seatbelt. But it is another thing altogether to not even be sitting in the seat of a moving car. We are pretty sure the safest place to be in an accident is NOT on top of the trunk. And to be fair, what exactly is the Lexus driver doing? There seems to be a lot of stupidity to spread around in this short clip. A lot of losers, but not many winners.

The C8 Corvette driver appears to be young and likely doesn’t have much driving experience. We would like to offer him a tip. When driving forward in traffic it is best to look out your windshield and not at your trunk. Maybe they don’t teach that in driver’s ed anymore, but it should be lesson number one. Aside from that, letting a friend ride on the trunk? Really? First, there is the concern over scratching the paint or denting the trunk. Second, do we really even need to say it? But it is too easy to get your friend killed with a stunt like that. If you want to bring a friend, it is best that they sit on the inside with you.

Thankfully no one seems to have been hurt except for the beautiful Corvette convertible. Unlucky if you are the car but lucky if you are a human. The speed of the impact was low, but it was still enough to make the trunk-riding friend tumble towards the cockpit. The Corvette looked to be the biggest loser here. The Lexus SUV looks like it has a mangled bumper. The Corvette looks undrivable. The impact was severe enough to damage the radiator as steam enveloped the car shortly after impact.

And while we are rightfully bashing the dumb Corvette driver, we can’t help but wonder what the Lexus driver was doing? It seems to us that the driver of the SUV was in the middle of an illegal U-turn during rush hour traffic. Regardless, it certainly should not have been rear-ended by the Corvette driver. But it will be interesting to see how much if any of the blame the insurance companies or the police put at the feet of the Lexus driver. Be careful out there Corvette drivers. Especially around SUVs right now.
