Does the C8 Corvette Really Look Better in Person Than in Photos?

C8 Corvette

The C8 Corvette looks pretty great in person and on film, but is it really true that photos do the car no justice?

The C8 Corvette has been around for a few model years now, so we’ve had a good bit of time to get used to its radically new, rather exotic styling. The vast majority of people love the way the mid-engine Corvette looks, though styling is always subjective and some aren’t exactly fans of the look. But while we’ve noticed that the C8 Corvette is a bit more striking in person than in photos, Corvette Forum member Kevin A Jones recently started a very interesting discussion on that very topic in this thread.

“Some cars photo well and other just don’t seem to. Your thoughts? Even good (un-touched) photos taken in excellent light don’t typically seem to fully capture the full beauty of the C8,” Jones said. “Of course C8 photos can be enhanced/photo-shopped to the MAX to look any way you want. We often see examples of that on this forum. You know what I mean, when you see a C8 photo and you know the car doesn’t actually look anywhere near that good. Post C8 photos that you feel prove the point either way.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a large number of forum members agree with Jones’ assessment. “I have always said this since day one of seeing one in person, the C8 does not photograph well at all unless you hit that ‘perfect angle,’ said carriccp. “Seeing them in person, they always look much better.”

“Could not agree more,” added blueapplepaste. “Saw the photos when [it was] announced and thought ‘oh cool.’ And that’s it. Saw one in person on the freeway for the first time and the Porsche 911 was crossed off the list and replaced with a C8. Two years later and a C8 is in the garage and not a 911. Something is definitely lost in photos.”

So far, the vast majority of members agree with the OP that the C8 looks far better in person than it does in photos, though many have added pictures of their own cars to prove that it’s no slouch on film, either. Regardless, we’re curious to hear what you think about this very interesting topic – does the latest Corvette need to be seen in person to be truly appreciated, or are there ways to accurate depict its handsome looks via photos?
