CorvetteForum Member Renders C8 Z06 With Round Taillights

Do you prefer the more traditional round taillight look on this C8 Z06 rendering, or is it a total abomination?

The C8 Corvette immediately became a highly desirable vehicle the day it launched, and demand for the mid-engine machine hasn’t subsided now, roughly two years later. But lest we forget, there are some Corvette fans out there that don’t particularly care for the C8’s design, with many actually preferring to stick with the more traditional C7. One of the biggest styling sticking points is the C8’s taillights, which aren’t round as Corvette taillights were for some time. And that’s something that CorvetteForum member AustinVetter set out to change with this C8 Z06 rendering.

The OP is one of the folks that aren’t a fan of the C8’s taillights, though he admittedly loves the rest of the car. That inspired him to create this C8 Z06 rendering to see what the newest Corvette might look like if it had retained the C6’s round taillights, and, well, the results are at least interesting. The OP is pleased with his handiwork, but the reactions from the rest of the Corvette Forum community are decidedly mixed.

“Makes it look like a Nissan GT-R. No thanks,” says Tally Ho, who certainly has a point. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Corvette with round taillights, so this rendering does give off some GT-R vibes. Others, like FrankLP, are even harsher critics. “Looks like an aftermarket mod versus being an integral element of the overall design of the car. Nonetheless, I’m sure some aftermarket vendor can create tails like these for those that still want retro-round tails. Hence the beauty of the Corvette…it’s okay (and very popular) to make it your own.”

Regardless, others prefer this look to the C8’s taillight design. “I do like the round taillights because the C7/C8 design is too ‘busy’ for my liking. But that’s just me,” said WICKEDFRC. “Actually looks much better than I was expecting,” added sandcracker21. It’s also possible that perhaps a different round taillight design might look much better. “I think Chevy designers could make it look amazing if told to do it,” said RapidC84B.
