When a 100-year-old Arizona resident made a simple request, the local Corvette club was happy to oblige.

Oftentimes, automotive enthusiasts are the first to step up and help others, especially if someone is in financial need or simply wanting to experience something cool in their shortened time on this planet. That was precisely the case in Arizona lately when a woman named Audrey Matheson was getting ready to celebrate one heck of a milestone – her 100th birthday. Though she’s obviously done and seen a lot in her century on this planet, one of her caregivers, Nicki Reyes, had asked if there was anything Matheson wanted to do to mark the occasion, and she had one simple request that a local Corvette club was able to fulfill, Reyes explained to ABC 15 News.

“I asked her if there was anything she wanted to do before she died and she told me to ride in a red Corvette convertible,” Reyes said. “So, I reached out to a local Corvette club to see if they could help make that happen.” Little did Matheson know that her simple request was about to turn into a pretty extravagant event, which involved a visit from a Wallaby, courtesy of the Dylan Capshaw Wildlife Foundation, as well as  the Scottsdale Fire Department.

After those surprises, Matheson was treated to the main event – a ride in Navy veteran and Easy Valley Corvette Club member Jim Dunkelberger‘s red C8. Clearly, in spite of her age, Matheson didn’t want to go for some slow, simple ride, however. “She wanted to go fast,” Dunkelberger said of the short drive. Needless to say, from the look on her face, she enjoyed every second of this particular jaunt in the mid-engine machine.

In fact, it’s probably safe to say that Matheson’s 100th birthday was her best one yet – and that’s saying a lot. “I’m a bit shaken up, it’s been quite a day,” she said following the day-long experience. “Thank you everyone so much. My heart is definitely full.”
