This C2 Corvette restomod is certainly nice to look at, but it’s also very likely even more nice to drive.
We come across Corvette restomods all the time, and while most of them are built to perfection, there’s just one thing missing – crazy amounts of horsepower. This is perfectly fine, of course, because the whole point of most restomods is to take something old and make it as reliable as a brand new car, which is why most are powered by stock GM crate LS engines. That isn’t the case with this particular C2 Corvette restomod up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, however – not by a long shot.
On the outside, this C2 Corvette restomod certainly looks the part with a gorgeous House of Kolor Brandywine Kandy paint job, nine coats of which were laid down over a Galaxy Grey base coat. The drop-top classic is otherwise mostly stock, save for a set of 17-inch Billet Specialties Stiletto wheels wrapped with Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 tires measuring 235/40 up front and 255/40 out back.
Meanwhile, the suspension was treated to a host of upgrades including a full kit from Vette Brakes and Products Performance Plus that consists of custom control arms, front and rear transverse springs, and offset rear trailing arms, along with a custom rear sway bar, Steeroids power rack and pinion steering, and custom frame bracing, while four-wheel discs with Wilwood six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers help bring it all to a halt.
Inside, the cabin has been redone in black leather, lending a luxurious look and feel to this classic Corvette. Modern amenities here include a Vintage Air A/C unit, a retro-style radio, JL stereo system, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and fresh threads courtesy of Al Knoch interiors.
The real story of this gorgeous build lies under the hood, however, where a massive 515 cubic-inch mill resides. The big motor is based on a Donovan aluminum engine block, which has been treated to a Callies crankshaft, Oliver billet rods, coated JE pistons, Total Seal rings, AFR cylinder heads, a Jones Engineering hydraulic roller camshaft, Jesel aluminum rockers, beehive springs, hollow valve stems, a ported Edelbrock low-rise intake manifold, and twin Carter 800 CFM carburetors.
The big-block sends power to the rear wheels via a TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission and a Tom’s Differentials 3.55:1 Stage 7 rear differential. For purists, the original numbers-matching L79 327 V8 and Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission are also included in the sale, but personally, we’d be sticking with its wicked replacement.
