Tornado Damaged C8 Corvettes

Over 100 tornado damaged C8 Corvettes were destined to be destroyed, but some are being parted out instead.

Back in December, devastating tornadoes impacted multiple states, destroying millions of dollars in property and claiming the lives of several. That outbreak also damaged over 100 brand new Corvettes at the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant as well, and those cars were essentially beyond repair. However, it appears that GM isn’t just destroying those tornado damaged C8 Corvettes altogether, but rather, it’s recouping some of its loss by selling parts from the vehicles on eBay, as Corvette Blogger recently discovered.

GM initially marked all of its tornado damaged C8 Corvettes with an “X” on the windshield and some of those cars were later spotted being hauled away on a trailer. However, an astute reader noticed an eBay listing not too long ago for a set of open-spoke black aluminum wheels that – interestingly enough – also featured photos of the car they came from, which was a C8 Corvette missing several body panels and sporting an “X” on the windshield.

A quick search turned up a boatload of additional C8 Corvette parts that also came from these tornado damaged vehicles, including a power folding roof sourced from a Torch Red car, as well as a steering wheel from a C8 that had zero miles on the odometer. All of the parts were listed for sale by Stricker Auto Parts in Batavia, Ohio, which appears to have taken possession of at least some of the 100+ tornado damaged cars.

While it’s obviously awful to see these highly-desirable machines largely destroyed by nature, the fact that their parts will live on is good news for C8 owners. After all, parts for the mid-engine machine have been hard to come by in today’s world filled with supply constraints, making repairs difficult for those that damage them. At least this way, the Corvettes that were damaged by these devastating tornadoes can help supply a hungry market with some of those coveted parts.
