A little bit of movie magic makes this C8 Corvette scale model look like the real thing in these photos and video.

Most would agree that the C8 Corvette is a beautifully designed automobile, one that truly transforms the long-running sports car into an exotic. But we haven’t yet seen much artwork inspired by the latest Corvette, until now. GM recently asked five North American artists who specialize in a wide variety of mediums to share how the C8 “ignites their creative spark,” then displayed that artwork in the new “Find New Roads” lifestyle magazine. One of those artists – Felix Hernandez – used a C8 Corvette scale model to create some truly stunning images and a short video clip.

By simply looking at these photos, one would never guess they star a C8 Corvette scale model because it truly looks like the real thing. That’s because this sort of thing – building miniature models and manipulating lighting to create stunning images depicting fantasy worlds – is his specialty. In the video below, we can see the resulting footage that Hernandez came up with using the 1:18 scale model, a Laowa 24mm Macro Probe Lens, and some practical FX.

“I really enjoyed working on this project,” Hernandez said. “I had plenty of liberty to create and experiment with new things I had never done before. And even better, I was able to do it using a motorsports icon like the Corvette!”

To make this little piece of movie magic come together, Hernandez utilized a tiny treadmill with painted lines that simulate an airport runway. A fog machine adds a little bit of dramatic effect, while a small red LED wand recreates the look of the car’s taillights. While all of this was going on, Hernandez used his probe lens, positioned very close to the model and treadmill, to create the resulting macro images and video.

The result is a truly amazing and realistic video clip, along with some nicely detailed photos that anyone could easily mistake for a real C8 driving down a runway on a foggy night. And that’s a testament to Hernandez’s talent using an unusual medium that makes his work truly stand out from the pack.
