These C8 Corvette Grand Sport renderings could serve as an accurate preview of that particular model’s return.

Recently, news surfaced that General Motors had filed to trademark Grand Sport once again, possible previewing the return of a beloved model in Corvette history. It was also a bit strange, given the fact that most reports that have surfaced since the launch of the C8 indicated that GM was ditching the Grand Sport in favor of the forthcoming hybrid E-Ray. Regardless, this trademark filing have many thinking that a C8 Corvette Grand Sport is imminent, and artist Abimelec Arellano has already imagined what that might look like.

Arellano actually conjured up these C8 Corvette Grand Sport renderings some time ago, though today, they could potentially serve as a preview of what that model might actually look like. Previously, the Grand Sport was essentially a mix between the base Stingray and wider Z06, wearing the same wide body panels as the latter, but with the same powerplant as the former. This could very well be the case with a theoretical C8 Grand Sport, too, giving buyers a sportier look without the performance or price.

In the case of these renderings, Arellano took inspiration from the C4 Corvette Grand Sport, a beloved model in that sport car’s history that is famous for its blue paint, red fender hash marks, and white stripe. That look has made it to this theoretical mid-engine machine as well, along with a set of modern bronze wheels, body color-painted boomerangs, a large rear spoiler, and quad, center-exit exhaust tips.

The overall look is clean and simple, which is precisely what drew so many folks to prior Grand Sport models. They have all the looks one could want, providing a visual upgrade on the regular Stingray for a reasonable price tag. That kind of combination would certainly prove popular with the newer C8 as well, at least in our humble opinion, though it’s not like GM has a shortage of suitors for that model at the moment. However, as the years tick by, GM will undoubtedly need to come up with something different, new, and exciting to keep folks in line to purchase a new Corvette. Perhaps a new Grand Sport is a good way to do just that.
