Custom 1972 Corvette Restomod

This custom 1972 Corvette utilizes a heavy dose of C7 to modernize the classic ride in every conceivable way.

Corvette restomods are a dime a dozen these days, so it takes something truly special to stand out. This custom 1972 Corvette up for grabs at Bring a Trailer certainly fits the bill, however, as a truly comprehensive build with tasteful upgrades in every single facet. There isn’t a mechanical or cosmetic part on this C3 that hasn’t been touched, in fact, and the results quite simply speak for themselves.

That work began on the outside, where the previous owner worked to give the 1972 Corvette some more modern C7-influenced styling with the addition of a front chin spoiler, a new hood, side skirts, wheel well trim with side marker lights, and a relocated exhaust that exits via the bottom of the rear fascia. The chrome bumpers were shortened, smoothed, and tucked, and then the whole thing was coated in an attractive shade dubbed Ruby Red with Caribou Black Metallic hood accents.

Peek underneath, and you’ll notice that this C3 is every bit as gorgeous, mechanically speaking. The vintage Corvette rides on a gold SRIII Motorsports Stage II tubular steel frame, which has been fitted with Viking Performance adjustable coilovers, aluminum suspension components, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, Wilwood six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers over cross-drilled and slotted rotors, and 19-inch Forgeline RB3C wheels wrapped with 255/40 front and 295/35 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Modified and recovered C7 seats adorn the cabin, which features suede inserts and red piping to go along with lots of tan leather. There’s also a splash of carbon fiber and billet here and there, as well as modern amenities including a push-button start, Vintage Air HVAC system, power windows and locks, a Bowler shifter, AutoMeter American Muscle instruments, and a Pioneer double-DIN head unit.

Power for this gorgeous machine comes from GM’s 6.0-liter LS2 V8, which has been treated to a GM Performance Hot Cam kit, 243 cylinder heads, and a 10.9:1 compression ratio for a bit of extra juice, though the seller declined to provide any power figures. Regardless, this reliable modern mill sends its power to the rear wheels via a Tremec T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission fitted with a Stage 1 Street ceramic clutch and a Dana 44 rear end.
