70th Anniversary Corvette Confirmed – Production Starts Later This Year!

70th Anniversary Rear

Aging like fine Kentucky bourbon, the Corvette celebrates its 70th Anniversary milestone in style!

Chevrolet officially announced the 70th Anniversary Corvette today. And it turned out close to what we reported yesterday. The biggest difference is this: The trim package is not just for the Z06. Instead, it’s available on any Stingray 3LT coupe or convertible. However, base model Corvette buyers are out of luck. But as a consolation prize, they get a special commemorative plaque on the center speaker grille.

70th Anniversary Black

As expected, the 70th Anniversary Corvette is available in two unique exterior colors, White Pearl Metallic Tri-coat and Carbon Flash Metallic. Both colors are available with optional stripes, Satin Gray stripes for White Pearl paint and Satin Black stripes for Carbon Flash paint. The package includes special wheels with Edge Red stripes and commemorative center caps. The Edge Red trim extends to the engine cover and brake calipers. And special 70th Anniversary exterior badges adorn the doors, hood, and trunk.

Inside, Two-tone Ceramic leather covers GT2 or Competition Sport seats. Edge Red stitching and seatbelts add a dash of color and coordinate with the exterior trim. Suede microfiber covers the seat inserts and steering wheel. 70th Anniversary Edition logos plaster the headrests, steering wheel, and sill plates. At the rear, a unique rear bumper protector covers the trunk. And the a custom luggage set with 70th Anniversary Edition logos fills the trunk space.

70th Anniversary Interior

During the announcement, Chevy also revealed that the first production 2023 Corvette Z06 will be a 70th Anniversary Edition model. Tagged with VIN 001, Barrett-Jackson will auction off this vehicle in Scottsdale on January 29th, 2022. All proceeds from this auction go to Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping military families.

We knew it was a question of “when” and not “if” GM would make this announcement. The milestone was too good of an opportunity to pass up. At 70, the Corvette has outlasted every other car nameplate in its eight generations. An iconic brand, it’s kept pace with the times and appeals to a wide range of people. Or as Steve Majoros, Chevy’s marketing director said, “Even after 70 years, Corvette still makes hearts race and kids dream of the open road.”

Pricing for the Anniversary Edition package has not yet been announced. Production of the 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition is expected to start this summer with cars arriving for the 2023 model year. And now that Chevy’s web-based 3D visualizer tool is back up, you can create your own copy of the car.
