2023 Corvette Z06 Owner’s Manual Reveals Easy 200+ MPH Top Speed
Leaked manual seems to hint that the 2023 Corvette Z06 will easily crest the 200 mph mark, but by how much?
By now, everyone is well aware of the fact that the upcoming 2023 Corvette Z06 is going to be fast. After all, we are talking about a car that’s equipped with the most powerful naturally-aspirated production V8 in automotive history, GM’s 5.5-liter LT6 V8, which cranks out 670 horsepower – nearly 200 more than the already-quick C8 Stingray, which tops out at 194 mph. We don’t know exactly how fast the new Z06 will be, but now we have a hint as to what the car’s lofty top speed will be after the owner’s manual leaked via Corvette Blogger, at least.
On page 202 of the manual, there is a chart with the minimum and maximum speeds at which the transmission in the 2023 Corvette Z06 can be upshifted or downshifted through all seven gears. The range here is undoubtedly impressive, as one can shift into fifth gear at speeds as low as 29 mph or down from sixth at speeds as high as 188 mph. That latter figure also happens to be the highest listed on this chart, as sixth and seventh gear simply say that they’re “aero limited.”
If one can downshift from sixth to fifth at 188 mph, it’s safe to assume that the 2023 Corvette Z06 can easily crest the 200 mph mark in sixth gear. As for the “aero limited” thing, it’s also safe to assume that cars equipped with the Z07 package and its added aero bits will have a lower top speed than regular Z06s, thanks to the extra downforce created by those components. The same is also true of the Stingray equipped with the Z51 package, which is 10 mph slower at the top end than the base car.
This is all well and good, but the question still remains – just how fast will the C8 Z06 go? Currently, the C7 ZR1 boasts the highest top speed at 212 or 214 mph, depending on who you ask, while the C7 Z06 was governed at 186 mph and also varied based on aero. We wouldn’t be at all surprised if the C8 Z06 exceeds all of those numbers, but then again, we’ll just have to wait and see.
