The 2023 Corvette Z06 LT6 is a truly special powerplant, a fact that GM decided to celebrate in a big way.

These days, modern vehicles roll off the assembly line containing plenty of Easter eggs, cool little touches that have become increasingly popular over the years. Some brands are known for cramming as many of these features into a vehicle as humanly possible, but it’s doubtful that any new vehicle will have as many Easter eggs as the 2023 Corvette Z06 LT6, as the new flat-plane crank powerplant and its surrounding engine bay contain a whopping 54 of them alone, according to Ward’s Auto.

Aside from being a technical masterpiece that took 12,606 engineer hours to create, the hand-built 2023 Corvette Z06 LT6 V8 is what GM likes to call a “moonshot,” and could very well mark the end of the great ICE powerplants as we know them. As such, the team decided to pay tribute to the Corvette’s longtime lineage with space exploration and as the favorite earth-bound ride of many famous astronauts by including a slew of rocket ship Easter eggs throughout.

Those little rocket ships are everywhere, including the engine block of the LT6, its valve covers, and pretty much anywhere else one can imagine. The most powerful naturally-aspirated production V8 in history was also originally developed under the codename “Project Gemini,” which also happens to have been the name of NASA’s second human spaceflight program that eventually led to the iconic Apollo missions.

We certainly can’t think of a better way to celebrate the most powerful Corvette engine ever – with 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque on tap – as well as perhaps the last clean sheet build that’s internal combustion in nature. Revving to a lofty 8,600 rpm, the 5.5-liter powerplant sounds more like a Ferrari than an American sports car, yet will likely cost just a fraction of its more exotic competition.

The LT6 also shares a number of similarities with its race-proven brethren in the C8.R, touting features including an aluminum block and pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, dry-sump lubrication, and of course, that flat-plane crankshaft that gives the LT6 its signature sound. Now, aside from enjoying that and the performance this engine provides, new owners can also spend their free time hunting down all of the many Easter eggs this new powerplant holds, too.
