2023 Corvette Delivery Goes Horribly Wrong in More Ways Than One

2023 Corvette Delivery Nightmare

A 2023 Corvette delivery is supposed to be a memorable occasion, but not in this kind of way.

The very first 2023 Corvette delivery or two has already taken place as we kick off a new, supply-constrained model year for the C8. It’s hard to believe that this car is now a few years old, but time does go quickly, as they say. Regardless, the lucky few taking a 2023 Corvette delivery – a short list that includes Corvette Forum member goto35 – are rightfully amped up to do so, though at least for him, that experience wasn’t quite as satisfying as one might expect.

“So yesterday I went to pick up my 2023 C8 Corvette from a courtesy dealer in SoCal,” he said. “I ordered from MacMullkin and it was a great experience. I was one of the first 2023s built. The first issue was California credit unions don’t do out of state deals anymore and that was further complicated with courtesy delivery, where I pay taxes to the local dealer and pay for the car out of state. That delayed me over two weeks.”

After sorting out the financial aspects of the deal, our new Corvette buyer had a brief moment of elation, followed by yet another disappointment. “So I pick up up the car and WOW, looks better than expected,” he said. “I’ve waited for this day for the last 12 months thinking about it everyday! Then, I turn on the car, and there is NO gas whatsoever! The paperwork says I am supposed to get 10 gallons. The local dealer said ‘sorry, we don’t give any gas.’ MM says I’m supposed to get 10 gallons. Ok, whatever, three miles on the car and I go to a gas station and fill her up.”

That obviously could have been the end of the story, but things only get worse from there, unfortunately. “Right before I turn on the car, the check engine light comes on,” goto35 said. “So I go back to the dealer and the courtesy person tells me ‘oh it’s normal, the check engine light will go away on its own, don’t worry, just drive it!’” The OP proceeded to do just that, but the light didn’t go away. He called OnStar, who performed a remote diagnosis and discover that it’s the transmission.

The owner returned to the dealer and headed to service, who wound up getting the code to go away, though the light came back shortly thereafter. However, after a second go-round, the light has disappeared and hasn’t come back. Regardless, even without any sort of real mechanical issue, the OP certainly suffered from one heck of a bad experience, and one that has many other Corvette Forum members questioning whether or not they want to do a courtesy delivery.
